Between stress, pressure at work and our daily subway, work, sleep in this period of health crisis, it is difficult to regain a zen attitude and to sleep well.
Our new way of life favors the development of sleep disorders and insomnia and in the evening it is a disaster, impossible to say “stop” to dark thoughts.
Fortunately, CBD could well play a major role in the treatment of our restless nights, indeed several studies show the affinity that exists between CBD and quality sleep. Explanations.
Deli Hemp talks to you about the virtues of CBD oil against sleep and insomnia.
This molecule to which 1001 virtues are attributed is regularly put forward: it would help relieve muscle pain, reduce anxiety, reduce the risk of epilepsy, and even quit smoking.
This, by playing the role of regulator with regard to the receptors of the endogenous cannabinoid system (CB1 and CB2), themselves acting on the nervous and immune system. This is especially true of the consumption of cannabidiol in the form of oil.
CBD oil is easy to administer but also easy to use (oral or sublingual) and produces rapid effects (30min).
Of course, its effectiveness also depends on your morphology but also on your body and its ability to absorb the product.
Reason why it is essential to get advice on your CBD oil and to contact professionals like Deli Hemp.
However, does CBD really help you sleep better? What are the links between CBD and sleep?
CBD and sleep, how does it work?
To better understand how CBD acts on sleep, we must come back to the way cannabidiol acts on the body: by attaching itself to the CB1 and CB2 receptors and by modifying the message sent by them to the brain. Since CB1 receptors are connected to the nervous system, cannabidiol attenuates the intensity of neuronal activity so as to reduce the factors that increase this activity – anxiety & stress, but also inflammation and pain.
In doing so, CBD acts indirectly on the circadian modulation (homeostasis) of sleep, above all by helping the body to relax.
It is the main vector from CBD to sleep: in promoting relaxation and muscle relaxation, reducing stress and chronic pain, CBD improves the phase of falling asleep. In short, by consuming CBD oil, we “find” sleep more quickly, which contributes to optimal recovery during the night.
This is not the only link between CBD and sleep. Studies suggest that taking CBD before bed would regulate the phases of REM sleep and help the transition to deep, more restful sleep.
Other hypotheses suggest that CBD would make it possible to lengthen the duration of sleep, or that it would reduce the risk of apnea in the short term.
Benefits produced by CBD on sleep in part thanks to the combination of cannabidiol and melatonin.
Finally, the CBD would have the effect of stimulating vigilance during the day, especially in people who sleep poorly, and to limit the sensations of daytime sleepiness. This, in turn, would help regulate the circadian cycle, daytime sleepiness having a negative effect on the quality of nights. However, it is not strictly speaking a stimulant, unlike caffeine for example.
Still, these affinities between CBD and sleep do not replace a healthy lifestyle (healthy diet, physical activity and ban from screens before bedtime). In fact, the link between CBD and sleep is stronger with a pre-existing disorder.
Is CBD better than sleeping pills to fight insomnia?
Although clinical studies are still scarce and the links between CBD and sleep are not scientifically established, the role of CBD in stress and anxiety is indisputable and, on its own, it helps promote better nights.
This is all the more interesting as CBD has an advantage over sleeping pills: it does not cause addiction, side effects or psychotropic effects (unlike its cousin THC, it is psycho-inactive).
Although sleeping pills are highly addictive (addiction is created in 4 weeks), 60 million consumers report the risks associated with taking sleeping pills, 2018 and are accompanied by a multitude of consequences in the body: head, nausea and vomiting, dizziness, depressive symptoms, hallucinations. Problems that are also found with antidepressants and anxiolytics, so many palliatives that they do not act on the cause (the origin of sleep disorders) and are content to attenuate the manifestations.
Whereas CBD simply helps regulate the circadian cycle and the rhythm of sleep.
