How long does it take for CBD to work?

While CBD is enjoying great commercial success, today it is commonplace to wonder about its mode of operation and its duration of action. For example, how does it act on our body? How long does it take for CBD to take effect? This article tells you everything!

The action of CBD on the body

CBD is now scientifically proven to have a direct action on the body’s endocannabinoid system. This system plays a central role in maintaining the internal balance of the organism: it helps to regulate its physiological mechanisms, and actively participates in many functions, such as pain, sleep, or anxiety.

Effects that vary depending on the method of administration

You should know that depending on how CBD is consumed, its path through the body will not be the same … its time of action can therefore also vary significantly!

With sublingual intake

This is probably the fastest and most effective way to enjoy the effects of your CBD. Indeed, if you put a few drops of CBD oil under your tongue, you will only have to wait a minute for the CBD to act: absorbed by the mucous membranes, it joins the bloodstream almost instantly, which guarantees you an optimal effect!

By inhalation

When vaped or smoked, CBD will enter the lungs directly and enter the bloodstream, before spreading throughout the body. Again, the effects are felt quite quickly (about a few minutes).

By ingestion

When you consume CBD by ingestion, it then passes through the digestive system. Here, the effects are therefore longer to be felt because it is necessary to wait for the end of digestion (about one or two hours). With this mode of administration, the concentration of CBD in the blood is lower.

By cutaneous route

This mode of consumption is ideal when you want the CBD to act locally, on specific areas. The absorption rate of the product is however quite low, and requires a more substantial dosage. In this situation, you have to wait around 1 hour 30 minutes for the product to work.

How long does it take before CBD is eliminated from the body?

It is quite difficult to define precisely how long it takes for CBD to leave the body, as it depends on different criteria. The mode of administration comes into play, but other factors, such as weight, metabolism, or the quality of the product, also come into play.

According to a study carried out in 2007, CBD would remain in the body about 72 hours after being smoked or vaped, while other studies claim that an extract of CBD and THC consumed in capsule form becomes undetectable in the body. – beyond 6 hours.

Regardless, there is no need to worry about having to be tested for drugs after consuming CBD, as the risk of testing positive for THC is really minimal. Indeed, the CBD-based products marketed in France never contain more than 0.2% THC … it would therefore be necessary to consume a very massive amount for it to be detected during a screening!

Good to know: it is also possible to move towards the extraction of CBD, a very pure product with a very high concentration of CBD, without any trace of THC.
